Other Light Sources: An interactive installation

Bioluminescent fungi produce their own glow through a chemical reaction, commonly found on decaying wood. They are found globally, steeped in cultural mythology. In Australia, these are known as ‘ghost mushrooms’ where aboriginal lore references them as spirit lights, or in Japan where the ‘light mushroom’ references their connection to ghostly presence and the supernatural.

It playfully reimagines futuristic, glowing fungi and ghostly presence.

These fungi forms and UV-reactive pigments to explore cycles of transformation, the ‘other’ and the unseen; they glow gently in the dark, activated by light but existing quietly outside of it.
